Jake Mehew

Jake Mehew is a producer, performer, improviser, DJ, radio presenter and educator based in Leeds. For the past six years, Jake has been exploring the relationship between improvisational philosophies within jazz and electronic music, searching for ways to liberate performance from its often linear and sequenced direction. His music is concerned with self-expression, radical invention and developing open-ended works as a springboard for departure.

Jake’s recent venture into the world of modular synthesis led him to establish “The Electro-Acoustic Freedom Project”. The aim of this project is to combine free improvisation, generative sequencing and audio manipulation as a means of exploring the creativity inherent within technological systems of control. Jake's involvement within the Leeds Jazz Festival will see him publicly install an eight hour generative sound installation, openly inviting the Leeds music community to contribute to an emergent, forward-thinking, jazz of tomorrow.
